Friend failed to reach summit, was found by search team

Bratislava, March 8 (ČTK) — A Czech 52-year-old mountain climber died after a fall while ascending the Tupa peak (2,285 meters) in the High Tatras, east Slovakia, on Saturday, mountain rescuers have told the media.

They were called in by another Czech mountaineer who made the trip together with his colleague.

In easier conditions some 150 meters below the summit, the two men decided to proceed further each on his own, without belaying.

One of them reached the summit in late afternoon. He waited for the other but failed to establish contact with him. Therefore he descended the mountain and asked the rescuers for help.

Four rescuers with a dog found the body of the missing man, who had died of fatal injuries after falling from a rocky slope.
