Avast becomes most valuable IT company in the CR

Company attributes global user growth and financial performance to its investment in the Czech Republic

PRAGUE, March 11, 2015 — Avast Software, maker of PC and mobile security, recorded yet another excellent year in 2014. Financially, Avast finished the year with revenue of $217 million, representing 51 percent year-on-year growth, and EBITDA of $154 million. Some 99 percent of the revenue was generated outside the Czech Republic. In addition to its impressive financial performance, Avast added nearly 30 million new users to its already market-leading total of 230 million.

“2014 was another great year for Avast,” Avast CEO Vince Steckler said in a press release. “While all of our competitors struggled to increase revenues or to add new users, we succeeded with doing both. We believe our success is attributable to our steadfast commitment to working out of the Czech Republic, leveraging the amazing talent that is here while attracting top-notch talent from other countries to join us.”

Last year, Avast hired more than 150 employees, raising the company’s total to 500. To further support its ambitious expansion plans, Avast will hire more than 200 people in 2015, a 40 percent increase over 2014. The vast majority of these new jobs will be based in Prague. Currently, 90 percent of the company’s employees work in the Czech Republic.

To accommodate this hiring growth, Avast will move to the new Enterprise Office Centre building at Pankrác by the end of 2015. This state-of-the-art building will serve as the company’s 14,000 square meters world headquarters. Avast now has 13 offices in Prague, Brno, Germany, China, South Korea, Taiwan, and the U.S.

“Our success is driven by our market-leading innovation,” said Steckler. “Our new home-network scanner was first to market, while our recently announced free SMB product further demonstrates the type of disruptive thinking that’s always fueled our success – and it’s mainly driven by our teams in the Czech Republic. We look forward to continuing to hire the most talented and highly skilled people who enjoy working for the industry leader.”

The Avast Foundation also benefited from the company’s 2014 success, with Avast supporting more than 120 programs and nearly doubling its charitable contribution for the year. This donation elevated the foundation to the third largest Czech corporate foundation.

Avast Software protects more than 230 million people and businesses with its security applications. In business for over 25 years, Avast is one of the pioneers in the computer security business, with a portfolio that includes free antivirus for PC, Mac, and Android, to premium suites and services for both consumers and business. In addition to being top-ranked by consumers on popular download portals worldwide, Avast is certified by, among others, VB100, AV-Comparatives, AV-Test, OPSWAT, ICSA Labs, and West Coast Labs.
