Thanks Tomas, and all the best for the new year to you. Yes, I know Napoleon won, but I had confused Sadowa or Sadova with Slavkov. Sadova is Koniggratz where the Prussians defeated the Austrians in 1866. Fred Astaire's real surname was Austerlitz, but whether he had Czech ancestry I wouldn't know. If you like Michael Jackson's music, that's fine, but I have little time for it.

Hello Karel... and happy new year. I hate to have to put a cramp into the start of it but Austerlitz is Slavkov, a small town close to Brno. The battle of Slavkov took place on the 2 of December 1805. It was called the battle of the three Emperors (?Bitva tří císařů"). Even though the forces of Napoleon were outnumbered he achieved a great victory over the combined armies of Austria-Hungary and Russia. So... contrary to what you wrote, Napoleon did actually win the Battle of Austerlitz (i.e. Slavkov). In 2005 there was a huge reconstruction of the battle with many foreign dignitaries present. Anyhow... I kind of strayed off topic but back to MJ. His pop tunes were quite unique for the type of music he pioneered was a fusion of soul, rock and pop. No one can deny this... but his personal life was a disgrace, hence casting a shadow on his successful music ability.

I don't know about you, but I have never really come to grips with the end of Fred Astaire's career. Now there was a dancer! He was actually of Czech extraction as his real surname was Austerlitz, which we all know is in Bohemia and is called Sadowa by the Czechs, and incidentally, where a Czech army defeated Napoleon in the early 1800's. As for singers of good songs, forget Michael Jackson and recall Al Joslon. The young and now not so young should be encouraged to sit down and actually listen to this man's recordings. Mammy, oh mammy .... . He tried to make himself look like a negro, whereas Michael Jackson .... .
