The top three teams from the four-member group will advance to the next round.

AWARD National soccer team midfielder Marek Matějovský, who plays with Reading in England’s Premiership, has received the Match magazine goal of the month award for March. TICKETS About 10,000 tickets for next season’s NHL opener between the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning, to be played in Prague Oct. 4 and 5, were sold within 27 hours of being put on sale April 28. The remaining tickets for the 17,500-seat arena will be put on sale during the summer.
OLYMPICS The Czech Olympic team at the Summer Games in Beijing will be smaller than the country’s 2004 squad in Athens, where 142 Czech athletes competed. The Czech Olympic Committee (ČOV) announced April 29 that 71 athletes have so far qualified for Beijing, with others still competing for a spot on the team. Overall, the ČOV expects that 100–120 Czech athletes will travel to Beijing.
INJURY The hottest Czech medal contender for the Beijing Games, decathlete Roman Šebrle, suffered another muscle injury, forcing him to halt his Olympic training. Earlier this year, Šebrle had to walk away from competition at the World Indoor Championship in Valencia, Spain, due to a thigh injury. In Beijing, Šebrle will be defending the gold medal from the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
