SPEED The state prosecutor in Trevoux, France, has set a court trial date of Feb. 28 for Czech national soccer team striker Milan Baroš, who was caught by French police Nov. 1 for speeding. The striker drove his Ferrari at 271 kilometers (168 miles) per hour on a road with a speed limit of 130 kilometers per hour. The police detained the car and also Baroš’s driving license. The state prosecutor is also reportedly considering confiscating Baroš’s Ferrari. HALTED FK Mladá Boleslav soccer team was halted in the UEFA Cup after losing to Fiorentina, 2-1, in a Dec. 20 game in Italy. The only Czech team in the UEFA Cup’s spring portion will be Slavia Praha. Slavia is scheduled for a match-up with England’s Tottenham Hotspurs in February.TRANSFER The Gambrinus liga’s top scorer in the fall, Macedonian striker Goce Toleski, has transferred from Most to Slavia. The striker, who scored 8 goals in 16 games in the fall season of the country’s top soccer league, signed a two-year contract with the Prague team. He is expected to replace Stanislav Vlček, who left for Belgium’s Anderlecht.BONUSES The Czech national soccer team’s general manager, Vlastimil Košťál, has disclosed the bonuses for the Czech team’s appearance at the Euro 2008 tournament in Switzerland and Austria next summer. Players will share 56 million Kč ($3 million), and could earn even more if they advance to final rounds of the tournament. The Czechs will kick off Euro 2008 in the event’s opening match against Switzerland June 7 in Geneva.BOXING The first ever boxing bout of a Czech fighter for a World Championship belt will come Jan. 19 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Lukáš Konečný will take on Ukraine’s Sergei Dzindziruk, the reigning champion of the World Boxing Organization’s (WBO) super welterweight category. The bout was originally scheduled to take place in late November but had to be postponed after Konečný suffered an injury during training.GONE Soccer coach Miroslav Soukup who guided the Czech team to silver medals at the World Under-20 Championship in Canada in July has accepted an offer from Egypt to work as the head coach of the country’s national junior team. As a result, Soukup resigned as an assistant coach to Vítězslav Lavička at the Czech U-21 team.RETURN Former Sparta Praha soccer captain Tomáš Sivok is set to rejoin the club on a six-month loan after failing to become a regular starter at Udinese. The versatile 24-year-old Czech moved to the Italian club in January 2007.
