  • LOGISITICS -
  • Cargo Partner of Austria will build a logistics center in Prague worth more than 9.5 million euros ($12 million/270.9 million Kč), Euro reported in its June 25 issue. The company announced through a spokesperson that the center would be built in the second half of the year but would not specify its location. Cargo Partner is currently completing a logistics center in Bratislava.

  • SALES -
  • Linet, a manufacturer of healthcare technology and one of the top five hospital bed producers in the world, saw sales increase 5.5 percent to a record 1.12 billion Kč ($49.7 million) last year, the company announced June 1. The increase was thanks to large foreign contracts but also demand at home. Domestic sales increased 37 percent to 246 million Kč.

  • POLICY -
  • The government managed to accomplish 25 of the 33 objectives set by the State Information and Communication Policy for years 2004–06, according to an evaluation released by the Information Technology Ministry June 22. The policy deals with three spheres key to the development of an information society: accessible and safe communication services, technological education and modern public Internet services.

  • DOMAIN -
  • The IT Ministry finished evaluating the final applications for .eu Internet domains June 20. The ministry has evaluated 439 applications from public institutions, municipalities and state administrative bodies since February. It approved 249. The Czech Republic ranks 12th on the list of European Union countries that have applied for the domains, surpassing Ireland and Finland.

  • REGULATION -
  • Companies and individuals have until July 14 to send any ideas or comments about a new amendment to the law on electronic signatures being drafted by the IT Ministry. The amendment will regulate the development of strategies for supporting the creation of electronic signature technology and data protection.

  • TELECOM -
  • TeliaSonera International Carrier, a part of Swedish-Finnish telecommunications company TeliaSonera, entered the Czech market in mid–June with the goal to become Europe's top provider of voice–over IP services by 2010. TeliaSonera has been on the Czech market since 2001 as a wholesale provider of IP and voice services to land and mobile network operators.

  • TELEVISION -
  • Panasonic AVC Networks Czech said June 21 it wants to double its production of televisions this year. The company plans to produce 2.2 million flat-screen TV sets from April 2006 to March 2007. PDP TV sets will make up more than half of this production, and the rest will be LCD screens, said spokesman Jaroslav Souček.

  • INTERNET -
  • Emea Telecom has started offering customers who buy its services online until the end of July 1,000 minutes of free dial-up Internet connection.

  • AWARD -
  • Technology and consultancy firm Logos won Microsoft's Industry Awards this year in the category of best solutions for the banking, insurance and financial services sector.
