Computer pirates beware
IT systems are more sophisticated, but so are the hackers who break in

BRIEFS


ACQUISITION Intel Capital and Enterprise Investors have acquired a majority stake in Grisoft, a leading anti-virus software producer, Grisoft announced recently. The two companies bought a 65 percent stake from Benson Oak Capital for $52 million (1.2 billion Kč). The acquisition is waiting for approval by the Czech Anti-Monopoly Office.

DIVIDEND Fixed-line operator Český Telecom will get 4 billion Kč in dividends from its mobile unit Eurotel by the end of this year. Telecom, the sole owner of the mobile operator, already received 3 billion Kč from Eurotel in the spring. The money will go to pay Telecom's debt.

WIRELESS Mobile operator Eurotel plans to offer voice and data operations in the 3G mobile network on a commercial basis by next year, company representatives said. Eurotel is now testing the service in parts of Prague with an eye to covering 90 percent of the city by end of the year, in line with a requirement set by the Czech Telecommunications Office.

COMPANY Lenovo Group opened a branch office in the Czech Republic in August. Lenovo, the world's third-largest computer producer, is a spinoff company of computer maker IBM that currently offers ThinkPad notebooks, ThinkCenter desktops, ThinkVision monitors and ThinkVantage technology accessories. The Czech office will be headed by the former director of IBM's personal computer division.

CERTIFICATE Cleverlance has become a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner. Cleverlance is the leading supplier of open solutions based on multi-tier technology in Central Europe. The title is awarded to companies that produce solutions and services based on Microsoft products and criteria. Companies selected as partners receive special support corresponding to their market position.

SHOP A Czech Internet Mall company has opened its first shop in Slovakia, Electroexpert.sk, which offers household appliances. The company plans to launch three other shops — Fotoexpert.sk, Audioexpert.sk and Videoexpert.sk — by the end of September. Internet Mall estimates the Slovak market to be worth up to 1 billion Kč. It expects to post 7 billion Kč in sales in the Czech Republic this year.

PURCHASE Intel has bought a 16 million Kč stake ($683,760) in Grisoft, a Czech anti-virus company that produces the AVG Anti-Virus software, among other products. This is Intel's largest investment in Central Europe.
