DPP collects 136 million Kč in fines from fare dodgers in 2013

Prague, Jan 19 (ČTK) — The Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) collected over 136 million Kč in fines from passengers traveling without a valid ticket in 2013, the sum being similar to amounts collected in the previous years, DPP spokesman Jiří Štábl has told ČTK.

DPP's ticket inspectors checked almost 7 million passengers and caught more than 235,000 passengers without a ticket last year.

DPP employs 162 ticket inspectors now. About 100 of them monitor public transport passengers on working days and about 60 of them at the weekends.

The fine, or penalty fare, is now 1,500 in Prague Kč. If a passenger pays the fine immediately after being caught by an inspector or within 15 days, the fine is cut to 800 Kč.

The transportation rules state that at the request of an authorized person, riders must present a valid travel document (ticket, pass or OpenCard), or else to pay the fare and supplementary charges or present a personal document and disclose personal information needed to enforce payment of fare and supplementary charges.

Further, the inspector can make a ticketless rider follow him/her to an appropriate public administration workplace to establish the passenger‘s identity, or remain at an appropriate location until the arrival of a person authorized to determine the identity of the passenger.
