Wow, Margaret Donaldson, thank you for your enlightened 'comment.' I had no idea that the hundreds of thousands of Iranians - from all social strata - who braved the wanton use of violence (including beatings, shooting, rape, sodomy and depravation) by the Bajji Militia did so for no reason, or as you so intellectually denote 'idiotic claims that the elections in Iran were rigged.' Perhaps you need to shift gear and also suggest that North Koreans live in communist bliss and Hugo Chavez's arrest of prominent opposition members is just a normal democratic procedure?

Ms. Khalilova's treatment of the year-old Iranian Intifada (shake-up) is a thoughtful contribution to the growing opinions and literature on Iran. This is not to suggest that must you agree with Ms. Khalilova, but you should respect her opinion instead of spewing your own, completely ridiculous and insultiing rant.

The regime will always feel comfortable as long as sanctions don't affect the senior staff of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (I.R.G.) As long as life is good and no great sacrifice on their part is required then they will continue with impunity. Regime 're-organising' by internal forces seems too great a risk for those comfortable. The bottom line policy of the USA grows closer with every defiant month that passes. The Turkish and Brazilian dialogue is unlikely to persuade Iran from pursuing capability. With a four year Presidency secured and dissidents being jailed with any other opposition; it is hard to see a peaceful end to Mr Ahmadinejad's entrenched position.

>>ents very nicely.I am glad that you acknowledge that you are not really that much interested about facts, but rather about putting down people who does not share your monotonic political views of anarchy,anti-americanism,loony left ideas and anti-Zionis

Blah, blah, blah. You must manage to warm your tiny little house with all the brainless hot air you produce!

"There is nothing either thoughtful or useful about Ms Khalilova's ignorant rant. She makes accusations without presenting a tiny shred of evidence."

A typical of Peggy.

Loony rant of ever shrill statements that are based on her carefully masked biases(maybe not so careful to most)and tidbits from inane websites.
In fact in this case there are not even any factoids provided by her.Just a spilled bile.

It was good of one of Mrs Khalilova's friends to write to support her drivel. Unfortunately, it's drivel nonetheless.

If there is evidence for vote-rigging then perhaps somebody can produce it: I have seen none. Indeed, it's in the nature of the way that the Iranian votes are counted - by thousands of professionals throughout the county - that makes vote-rigging very hard. By contrast, vote-rigging in the US is very easy, because much of it is done electronically without any proper audit trail.

>>a thoughtful contribution to the growing opinions a

There is nothing either thoughtful or useful about Ms Khalilova's ignorant rant. She makes accusations without presenting a tiny shred of evidence.

Show us the evidence or shut up.

There is some change inside Iran; the work of Amnesty International has increased as hundreds are detained without recourse to representation. Many arrests are made in secret with no family contact, torture is routine.
Public execution, minorities in particular; are used as a political tool.

Oh dear, it looks as though we are back to the usual fare of right-wing rants by random nutters posing as political analysts.

Iran had free and fair elections: unfortunately, the result wasn't what the US wanted. In 1953 the US staged a coup, removed the democratically elected government, and replaced it with a brutal dictatorship. This time, instead, its media outlets (and apparently the Prague Pissed) ran idiotic op-eds such as the one above.

Instead of pouring out this endless drivel, perhaps Ms Khalilova can provide some *evidence* to back up her idiotic claims that the elections in Iran were rigged, or that Iran is trying to become a "regional power".
