Preview: Delta Heavy
A night out that goes thump, thump, thump
Posted: March 6, 2013
DJ-producers Ben Hall and Simon "Si" James signed to RAM records in 2010 and have set out to capture the aggression of older drum and bass tracks.
Delta Heavy - taxonomically: British, dubstep, drum and bass - will bring it forth and overloaded at the duo's first-ever Prague show at Yes Club on this spring's Continental tour.
The DJ-producers Si James and Ben Hall first met as students at Nottingham University and signed in 2010 to RAM records, a label renowned within the world of drum and bass.
If you've not heard Delta Heavy's work, you've certainly heard something the duo has worked, say, a track by Nero, Downlink, Tinie Tempah, Excision or Rita Ora the pair would go on to remix.
And last year, Delta Heavy finally gave the world a collection of its own with the EP Down the Rabbit Hole and shared the stage more than once with the Canadian producer Datsik, a fellow up-and-comer. The new single, "Empire," is also available for download through Delta Heavy's website for those wanting a preview.
When: Friday, March 8, at 9
Where: Yes Club
Tickets: 280 Kč, through Ticketpro
"We have been enjoying so much music at 110 bpm, we wanted to capture the epic atmosphere and aggression of some of the old drum and bass tracks we grew up with and inject that into the genre," the duo has said of the track.
"This is definitely our own take on the tempo. We've been opening our sets with 'Empire' everywhere for the past six months, and it's been going down really well. We wanted to give it out to people now before we got stuck into writing our debut album."
So, if the past six months are any indication, Delta Heavy will start this first show like that, too, and if the duo likes Prague and Prague likes the duo back, everyone can look forward to many shows to come.
