Are you a language teacher who is interested in exploring or further developing creative methods to use in the classroom? Or an artist looking for a direction for your career? You should check out Divadlo jazyků, the biggest nationwide language-learners theatre festival, and conference for education professionals. Divadlo jazyků is presented by Cambridge University Press, the Faculty of Education at Charles University Prague, and ZŠ Marjanka (a primary school that has an English-through-drama program accredited by the Czech Ministry of Education).

The theatre festival will be performed by language learners of English, German, French, Italian and Czech. We anticipate over twenty different theatre groups from all over the Czech Republic to perform. There are still vacancies for groups interested in applying to perform at the festival http://www.divadlojazyku.cz.

At the conference, you can attend lectures and workshops lead by education professionals who will share their experience of using drama to teach foreign languages and discuss the results of their projects. In the interactive workshops, you will learn the practical use of their techniques. Topics discussed at the conference will include: Speak Up: Practical Games and Techniques, Using Drama Activities to Teach Grammar, Learning Vocabulary Through Drama, and Using Elements of Drama Therapy with Language Learners. Amongst the guests are Manfred Schewe (head of the German language department at University College Cork, and leading scholar in the field of drama and language education), Bara Dockalova (director of the Jeviste language school and teacher trainer at the Faculty of Education, who also runs the program act and speak at ZŠ Marjánka), and David Fisher (director of The Bear Educational Theatre). The conference is accredited by the Czech Ministry of Education.

The theatre festival will take place at Na Pradle Theatre, Besedni 3, Prague 1 (near Kampa), June 12th to 19th, beginning at 4pm each day. Tickets are available for 80 CZK per day or 350 CZK for the whole week. Entry to the festival is free for all conference participants. The conference will take place at Celetná 13, Prague 1, June 13th - 14th, 9:00 - 14:00. The conference is 400 CZK. A detailed program of the festival and conference will be presented at http://www.divadlojazyku.cz.
