I agree with Seamus, and to answer Padraig's question - the dialogue and acting are both abysmal. The only reason to see this film at all is for the amazing special effects, which, like most beautiful eye candy, have little behind them.

I don't fit the category of "young adult", but am nevertheless curious about this genre. I've always been an SF fan, and to a lesser extent, science fantasy.

You don't mention about the dialogue and the acting especially, so I am interested about whether one is not supposed to consider them important in a film like this. I do sense that those components are not the film's best.

I did see 'The Sixth Sense' and it was a commercial success, though that was a decade ago. 'Signs' was also a 'success', but 'The Village' wasn't, I think.

I wonder whether Shyamalan's 'best works are behind' him as you said about another director recently?

A good review of a very very bad film.
