Margaret, please enlighten a weary journalist and cite some credible sources for the following: "Eh..no. The "payout" was because they made up quotes from newspapers, not because the stories were not based on real case-histories."

>>Well James,I would like to think that you would by now know that the readers of this weekly are -by large-a conspiracy theory freaks

And you are the biggest, most gullible conspiracy freak of them all. If Bush told you that he had four arms you would believe him.

>>The movie makes claims that are patently false about being based on actual events (as was exposed by The Anchorage Daily News and other area news outlets), and I pointed this fact out.

Eh..no. The "payout" was because they made up quotes from newspapers, not because the stories were not based on real case-histories. These case histories have nothing to do with newspapers in Alaska - indeed, they have been published throughout the world and studied by academics.

Jiri, as ever, has nothing intelligent to say.

Well James,I would like to think that you would by now know that the readers of this weekly are -by large-a conspiracy theory freaks and that you would get a backlash about one of their favorite subjects.

If you'll revisit the review, you'll be pleased to find that I make no claims about the veracity of any alien abduction stories that have been reported by real people. I was reviewing a movie, not an alleged extraterrestrial sighting. The movie makes claims that are patently false about being based on actual events (as was exposed by The Anchorage Daily News and other area news outlets), and I pointed this fact out.

Either you know something about alien abductions or you don't. In my experience, when people say that they are "skeptical" it usually means that they are talking about something they know nothing about and base their comments on hot air. Convince me otherwise.

In any case, if you are reviewing a film it would be better if you could leave your personal baggage behind.

The $20,000 payment made to The Alaska Press Club (as reported by The Associated Press, incidentally) to "settle complaints about fake news archives used to promote the movie" may indeed have been claimed by Universal to have been "just a contribution," but I think it's safe to say that it wasn't a benign gift. If by "prejudiced," you mean "skeptical," I'd say you're quite right.

Does Mr Walling know anything at all about the subject of alien abductions? If not, perhaps he could have the humility to admit this before passing comment.

Moreover, perhaps he could also check the "$20,000 payout" next time before he copies it blindly from a movie review website. There was no law suit, and nobody has presented any evidence to suggest that the film was not, in fact, based on actual case studies.

Next time Prague Post might want to get somebody a little less prejudiced to write its movie reviews.
