Cocktail recipe: The Full Moon Fever

Walter Novak

The Full Moon Fever is rock 'n' roll with a twist.

Finding a decent martini outside the city center can be an arduous pursuit, which was something co-owners Isaac and Adam bore in mind when opening Dirty Dog Bar in Prague 3 about a year and a half ago.

Hailing from New York City and California, respectively, Isaac Starobin and Adam Sweet set about writing a cocktail list that incorporated both the classics and their own house blends. The bar's tongue-in-cheek menu boasts some fabulous modern inventions, including the Red-Headed Slut, a shooter comprising Jagermeister, peach liqueur and cranberry juice. The next step up from this is a shooter called the Lindsay Lohan, which is a Red-Headed Slut with coke.

The Full Moon Fever takes a new twist on a classic rum cocktail and is one of the bar's most popular tipples, ironically perhaps since it's the kind of drink you'd expect to sip out of a coconut on a tropical island, not nurse in the freezing Czech winter.

Named after the Tom Petty album, this cocktail is rock 'n' roll with a mellow twist. "We wanted to mix a drink that evokes those feelings of carefree times that we all have while paying homage to one of the rock 'n' roll greats," Isaac Starobin says.

Full Moon Fever

Serves one

Ingredients:

4 cl Havana Club Anejo Blanco

2 cl dark rum

2 cl Malibu Coconut Rum

2 cl Midori (Japanese melon liquor)

Splash of pineapple juice

Preparation:

Fill a large Collins glass with ice.

Add all the alcohol, then fill to the rim with pineapple juice.

In a Boston shaker, shake for about 10 to 12 seconds to chill and aerate the drink until there is a 1 cm head of foam on top.

Garnish with pineapple and melon slices, and serve.
