Jeff had the kind of chutzpah any newsroom thrives on - he would happily head off to far corners for stories and loved putting common-sense questions to those who hold themselves aloft from such rabble. He was a natural schmoozer, another great asset, and a film freak - I am certain there's at least one suspense movie screenplay he left behind.
As the seriousness of his melanoma became clear, he handled the awful consequences with class and courage, never once slipping into self-pity or melodrama. His upbeat spirit and nonchalance were incredible to see - and his hope for beating the odds never ceased, no matter how bad they got.
That's something that will stay with all the people he knew as they go on, dealing with things that we think are problems. As Jeff proved through example, the only real problem in life is when we resign ourselves to its limitations. Thanks, dude!

Dear Iva,

Your article was moving, especially because our 37 yr old son in law is
battling the same disease. Gregg is also from Connecticut. He has also seen Dr Sato, and our daughter, who is a medical resident in Boston, is working with Sato to bring together for the first time this fall the major researchers in the US and abroad, who focus on Ocular Melanoma. The hope is to increase collaboration and focus on the most promising possibilities for OM patients. Jeffrey sounds like an extraordinary young man. Please extend our thoughts to his parents and family. Andy Selig
