If the current Czech govt is serious about combating extremism and looking at individual cases involving the last Communist govt this case should be treated with same legal dillegence. I can understand 'economic complications' but the lack of human concern in light of all who suffered under tyrany is staggering. While there may be legal process to negotiate surley some acknowledgement of the emotional battle to salvage dignity having survived barbarism needs addressing. The moral obligation outstrips the political concern here to a degree that needs urgent attention.

I emphasize with Mrs. Novakova. Not only is property often not being returned or partially returned, but it is discouraging that the emphasis, even at the upcoming Conference in Prague, is on principles or communal property, leaving many individuals to fend for themselves without support. I wish her well. I am also struggling to reclaim musical scores and possibly real estate.

WHY, why, why many wonder, there are no outcries, including forceful lobbying by US Congress (which made even Klaus and the KSCM, while not happy at all, to accept Jewish communal and individual return of property, even when its "arisation" or not exactly attractive sale date long, years prior to otherwise "impenetrable deadline" of February 25, 1948?

Why a property sold in 1938, i.e. prior to Munich, 10 years prior to Communist putsch, is being returned to heirs of Jewish owners, even when those are pieces in National Gallery.

while this regime, an unholy alliance led by such supposed ideological opposites, like Mr. Klaus and the communist, continues its 19 years of consistent discrimination of gentile refugees from communism whom might have not tens of millions worth master painting, huge apartment houses at choice locations or factories sold at supposedly unfavorable prices, 70 years ago

but who got their simple family houses confiscated, i.e. not receiving any payment or selling it at "unfavorable cost" often just several years before the 1989 Revolution?

So a family house or humble apartment at "kralikarna" confiscated say in 1988 is not returned, not discussion about it is even allowed, while touchy cries from powerful lobbies, including "investigative" journalist are pushing restitution of property to chosen ones whose offsprings and their armies of lawyers, willing members of US Congress, are suggesting that not the clear stealing of property much more recently, but supposed unfavorable selling price (under democratic government, not communist totality) 50 years earlier has moral etc right to be compensated by the Czech Republic.

And no one seems to speak out, especially publicly, about this glaring disparity and gross injustice. The Prague Post has a sad tradition to choose tot to see this blatant injustice as NYTiems and others, the system, do.
