Novak Djokovic prevailed over Andy Murray in a classic semi final at the Australia Open – winning in just under 5 hours 6-3, 3-6, 6-7, 6-1, 7-5. The Serb proved exactly why he is ranked as the worlds best tennis player to reach another grand slam final, where he will meet Spaniard Rafa Nadal (for the third consecutive grand slam final).

The defeated Andy Murray can hold his head high after a heroic performance, banishing the memory of last years Australian Open where he was whitewashed in the final against Djokovic. Murray owes much to his new coach and mentor Ivan Lendl – the lengardary Czech tennis player has been coaching the Brit since the start of the year.

There has been a noticeable improvement in Murray’s game since he has been under the tutelage of Lendl. The Czech watched on stoney faced as his new student took Djokovic to the brink and back, should this partnership of Murray and Lendl continue to flourish there will soon be a grand slam title on the cards for Murray.

Before the semi-final, Lendl told Murray “there will be alot of tough points where your legs will be burning and sore and you will go through alot of pain mentally.” The 8 time grand slam winning Czech was right. If it wasn’t for the super human effort of Novak Djokovic, Murray and Lendl would have been looking forward to Sundays final.

Czech’s endure disappointing end

Elsewhere, Petra Kvitová also fell at the semi final stage as she was ousted by the Russian Maria Sharapova in three sets. It was a big disappointment for the Czech left hander as she was aiming to start the season with another grand slam victory under her belt.

Tomáš Berdych also left Melbourne with his hopes dashed after running into Rafael Nadal in the quarter final stages. Pick up a copy of next weeks The Prague Post to read more.
