Attention, spray can, street art and graffiti aficionados of Prague: BLOCK PAINTING2, the event of the year, is headed your way this weekend.
Organized by Art Direct, the apolitical, non-governmental and not-for-profit civic association founded two years ago to “Bring together people interested in art, support and promote art as such and to create a multimedia space for dialogue with the public and its interaction with presentation of contemporary art and artists,” BLOCK PAINTING2 promises to be a veritable two-day reverie in all things street art and more.
The second edition of this self-described “aerosol workshop” kicks off today at noon in the old factory next to the Křižíkova subway station, which has been modified to allow the 15 invited foreign artists and 10 Czech artists to show their stuff on Friday and Saturday. In addition to Saturday’s slated “Sketch Battle,” a contest in quick drawing, and other graffiti-related art events, attendees can expect a set of DJs, street dancers, film screenings, music and visual production and, of course, refreshments.
If this seems like it may be too much to handle, and you’re worried you’ll miss some of the unique displays of art of all kinds, worry not: event organizers are planning to document the entire two days with photographs and video.
