Prague Pub Crawl – the largest mobile party ever

Ever wonder where those masses of people on the sidewalk at night are going to? I do. So I went to find out.

Prague nightlife is synonymous with pubs. And partying. So I guess it sort of made sense to go on a pub crawl that calls itself a huge international party. I thumbnailwent on one of the biggest ones – it’s actually called the Prague Pub Crawl – to see what it was all about. I think the video says it all.

I feel like I might get some onslaught of snarky comments from long-time expats, etc etc, and I get it. Huge pub crawls aren’t considered a cool local thing to do. But everyone gets a fair chance on this blog – so what’s the verdict? It was fun. God I’m blushing. Yes, I said it. Fun.

I’m not huge into the people thing – I like to say I like people generally, but really not in particular. Like that? Yes, you can use it on your Facebook wall. I might have accidentally stolen it from someone, or a calendar, but I don’t remember. Anyway, the point is that even so, you couldn’t find a crowd of more good natured, easygoing and friendly people than on this pub crawl. Not to mention the guides – all of them, unbelievably nice. No when I say unbelievably, I mean it. Like they could be aliens from another planet. After being in Prague for a while, having people that are getting paid to do something for you that are nice was like seeing that youtube video with the dog who walks on his hind legs. Weird, kind of scary, but really really cool. Okay, again, cue onslaught of comments here. But let’s just say we all know that Prague is not the best place to find people in the service industry who even want to take your order, much less be nice to you, and definitely not anyone who would probably hold your hair back while you puke and then carry you to a cab after only knowing you for a few hours.

As far as the crawlers go, there’s like hundreds of them, so you’re bound to find someone you can get along with, or heck, even become friends with. There are people from everywhere. Seriously. It was like We Are the World in Prague. I haven’t felt so much kinship with a bunch of people since, I don’t know… high school math club? Haha just kidding. Or maybe not. That’s for me to know and you to not find out.

I feel like I need to qualify part of the video – there’s some parts where it appears part of the pub crawl wandered off… keep in mind everyone here is adults and there’s only so much one can do when adults who have consumed a few glasses too many decide they’re going to go one way when everyone else is going the other way… I sound like I’m spouting propaganda for this place, but I’m just telling it like I saw it. They tried really hard to keep everyone on board…

Basically, what I’m getting at is if even someone like me can find enjoyment in an unabashed pact to get unreasonably drunk and dance like we imagine pop stars do, then you can too.

This particular crawl has options. If you show up at 8 pm, you go to three other bars after the Pub Crawl Bar, if you show up at 9 pm, you go to two. Then Karlove Lazne, the famous or infamous, depending on who you talk to, five-story club. I showed up at 9 pm.  There is an hour of free unlimited drinking at the Pub Crawl bar before you set out. It’s cheap beer, wine, absinth and vodka cranberry shots, so plenty of options to suit your taste. Don’t ask the brands like I heard one girl do – c’mon, it’s free. And unlimited. You also get a t-shirt, and a free vodka shot at every bar, as well as entry into Karlovy Lazne. It costs 490 Kc. I guess the value depends on you…

After the Pub Crawl Bar, we went to Chapeau Rouge at Jakubská 2, then Batalion at 28. října 3, and then made our way to Karlovy Lazne. By then it was around 1:30 or 2 a.m. (don’t expect me to remember specifics at this point). And the club was truly hopping – there’s nothing better than seeing that line and just waltzing in, believe me…

So sure, it’s not the best model of bars or pubs in Prague. It’s not like they’re bringing you to some really amazing places you would never find by yourself, or tasting special drinks you wouldn’t get anywhere else. But you’re in a mobile party. C’mon – that’s sort of cool. And you can enjoy walking down the street outnumbering ever single group of people that gives you nasty glares like you’ve always wanted to. And I have to add this in – call me gross or blah blah blah whatever, but there are lots of girls. And there are lots of boys. And they are very friendly and there are probably some that are thinking what you are thinking. And I will leave it at that.
