Okay, so this may not seem like a nightlife post, but it is – because it’s getting you prepared for possibly one of the greatest nights of your life. Starting September 15th, all you fellas out there can register to be a part of “Movember.”
So what is Movember? Let me put it this way – after all those years of having to shave every morning and bother about your facial hair, Movember is an opportunity to let that facial hair grow all month to raise money for a variety of charities that promote men’s health.
You’re probably wondering what’s so nightlife-y about that? Well, at the end of all of it, there’s all kinds of great fiestas and gatherings with all the people who participated – Mo Bros, and their supporters the Mo Sistas, so termed by the Movember organization. Sure, it’s not until November, but what sort of help would it be if I told you about it after the registration period, without giving you any time to prep and train for the harrowing 30 days of all out facial hair growth?
Movember is an international organization started in Australia in 2003 – since its creation, it has raised around $100 million for men’s health. The idea, according to the Czech chapter, is that when people ask you about your ever-growing facial hair, it gives you an opportunity to educate people on men’s health issues, and to raise money.
At the end of the month, Movember participants get together and have grand parties and fiestas – you can check out last year’s party for the Czech chapter at their website here. Registration for the event is at the official Movember website, where you can even register your own parties if you decide to make it, for example, an office-wide project. The contact information for the organizers of the Czech chapter are on their website, but chances are it’ll be easier to get in touch with organizers and participants on their facebook page.
