Prague band vying for Hard Rock festival slot

A Czech band is battling it out with 39 other groups from around the world for the chance to play the main stage at this summer’s Hard Rock Calling festival.

Bon Jovi, Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks are among the headliners for the 70,000-capacity festival at London’s Hyde Park June 24-26 2011.

Having won the Czech round of the Hard Rock Battle of the Bands, Prague rocksters NeoSound are now depending on internet votes to see them through to the main event.

The four finalists that get the most votes will get to fly to London and enjoy rock star treatment courtesy of Hard Rock, but only one band will actually get to perform on the main stage.

Past performers at the festival include Aerosmith, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, The Who, Pearl Jam, Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen, The Killers and The Police, so NeoSound would certainly be in good company if they made it all the way.

Made up of singer Andres, guitarist Jan, bassist Vojteck and drummer Cyril, the young group style themselves as urban crossover band that mixes alt rock with funk, in contrast to the rather more prevalent pubrock style adopted by many Czech bands.

Formed back in 2007, the group is getting ready to release their first album in the coming months.

Vote for them online at hardrockbattleofthebands.com until May 5.
