Film music buffs in Prague may have a chance to meet one of their heroes this weekend, as legendary Italian composer Ennio Morricone visits the city to record the soundtrack for a new movie.
The 82-year-old will be recording with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra at their studios in Prague-Hostivar Dec. 11-13, according to the Czech News Agency.
Neither the name of the film nor its director has been made public.
The composer more than 500 film and TV scores, Morricone made his name with characteristic melodies from Sergio Leone’s Spaghetti Westerns – A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965) The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) and Once Upon a Time in the West (1968).
Over the years, he has collaborated with a string of acclaimed directors including Roman Polanski, Oliver Stone, Brian De Palma, Barry Levinson, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Franco Zeffirelli, Giuseppe Tornatore, Roland Joffe and Adrian Lyne.
He has also written music for a number of Italian productions, such as Sicilian mafia TV mini-series The Octopus (La piovra).
Morricone has received two Grammys, two Golden Globes and a Lifetime Achievement Oscar. He has never won the Oscar for Best Film Score despite five nominations over the years.
It is the composer’s second recording trip to the city after a similar visit last year.
