Czech blues-rockers Papa Lam brought their unique mix of backbeat, rockabilly and guitar balladry to the Royal Oak British pub in Prague 2 this past Saturday.
While they are new to the professional music game, these local guys can really play guitar, as demonstrated by the many strum-filled, genre-hopping tunes they played.
The small, cavern-shaped basement of the Royal Oak is well suited to live music, because everyone can see and hear the band from every corner of the bar.
Saturday’s crowd was overwhelmingly international, with plenty of student-y and teacher types enjoying the drinks as much as the gig. There was plenty of smirting (that’s smoking and flirting) going on outside too, but without spoiling the musical mood.
And despite their greenness, Papa Lam seem to have a small but dedicated following that made their presence known clapping, singing and dancing near the stage.
The Velvet Violin recommends the band as one to watch out for around the city. In the meantime, check out several songs and videos by the group that are available on their website.
