Interview: Prize-winning director William Lee

Oct. 3-9 was the annual EKOFILM awards, in which environmentally themed films from around the world were screened and commended by a prestigious jury of six. The Prague Post spoke to director William Lee about his comedy An Application for Asylum in the Czech Republic on Ecological Grounds, which topped the Free and Miscellaneous Topic category.

Why so serious?

Surely actors, whose very job it is to entertain people – should be able to take a little ribbing, especially at an event where they’re celebrating their own great-massive-epic contributions to the world of film? Without some injection of cynicism these award shows (and there’s enough of them, and they go on long enough too) would be – and often are – self-congratulatory borefests.
