Veteran actor Eli Wallach will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences in recognition for a long career of iconic turns in legendary films and television programs. Wallach made a name for himself in a series of ethnically diverse roles, including 1966’s The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, The Godfather Part III and The Magnificent Seven. The 94-year-old actor’s recent work includes appearances in Clint Eastwood’s Mystic River (2003), 2010’s The Ghost Writer and Oliver Stone’s sequel to 1987’s Wall Street, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. Other honors bestowed upon the actor include BAFTA, Tony and Emmy awards. Highlights from the untelevised event will be available online at Oscars.org and included in the Academy Awards telecast Feb. 27, 2011.
It’s great to see old ‘Tuco’ getting this (late) recognition – he dominated “The G,B&U”, didn’t he?
Sometimes overlooked, though, was his performance as ‘Dancer’ in the Don Siegel, noir film, “The Lineup”, where he played a killer of the psychopathic variety.
