As reported in the Prague Post back at the beginning of the month, Fidesz have followed through with their plans to curb the Constitutional Court. Late last week (Nov. 22) President Pal Schmitt signed into law a 98% tax on severance payments in addition to amendments that will curb the power of the Constitutional Court on budget related matters.
The law has been altered somewhat since the initial proposal with the threshold increasing to 3.5 million forint for ordinary employees but remaining at 2 million forint for the state and local council leaders and managers of state and municipally owned companies.
It also paves the way for Fidesz to introduce their desired budget including reforms on pension funding and sharp tax increases in the energy, financial and telecommunication sector.
