Brewmaster reinvents a legacy (Tempo, 7 Nov, 2007)
I was yust talking to my German friend Tom today about a life long dreem to learn and work with the German brewmasters in the old country.I will never be able to afford to make this trip.but i still have the passion to brew.Im afrade the only thing I have ever brewed is mr. beer.But never the less it was exciting,and it turned out ok.Im irish american indian but I fell like im german at hart.Keep up the good work!let me know if you could use a hand, your friend Paul.

Foreign investors holding on to profits (Banking & Finance, 10 Sep, 2008)
Dear Editor,

Why does the Prague Post exclusively pander to US readers of your paper ? In the article above you quote the Czech Crown dividends paid by Czech subsidiary's of EU Companies.

You provide the CZK amount of the dividend and also a USD approximation. I am not interested in the USD approximation. These companies are European, their parents are European and therefore the most appropriate currency approximation should be in EUR and not USD. Or better still provide the approximation in EUR first and USD second. My argument is further strengthened by the fact that the CZK will at some point in the future become a member of the Euro.

I think Germany should take over the Czech Repubilc again. Maybe they'd bring some good ole German order here again. But seriously, will there ever be an end to the constant seesaw politics? I dare to say there's even a glimmer of hope for that. To the fools at CSSD... Just don't touch my income tax. I like paying 15%.

ECM to pursue Pankrác project (Business, 10 Sep, 2008)
Shocking to see that Prague's World Heritage also faces being put at risk by UNESCO. Here in Edinburgh, London Developers Mountgrange have caused a serious risk to Edinburgh's World Heritage status due to their unsuitable development 'Caltongate'. This also seeks to build a 5* hotel , luxuary flats and massive office complex right in the heart of the Old Town.
Whilst most agree some new development is needed in the gap site they created 2 years ago there is significant opposition to the additional demolitions (2 Listed Buildings, a former market building and 18 stone built tenament flats on the Royal Mile) which are required to make the site big enough for all their speculative developments.
Despite 1800 letters of objection, objections from many heritage and community groups, and the threat of being put 'at risk' by UNESCO, Edinburgh council still supports this vandalism. Of course it has nothing to do with the council having agreed to sell this large chunk of land (with Listed buildings, and the market on common good land) to the developers Mountgrange knowing they intend to demolish the lot!
Most frightening is that the Director of Mountgrange, Manish Chande, is also a board member of English Heritage who have a duty to protect the built heritage.

Hašek looks to return (Sports, 20 Aug, 2008)
I think it's great that Hasek is thinking of playing some more hockey. He posted really good stats last year and proved that he is still one of the best in the sport. I have really enjoyed watching him play in the NHL and only regret that I will not be able to see him play in the Czech League. Maybe I shall visit the Czech Republic and take in a game!

Avoiding flash points in the new Cold War (Opinion, 20 Aug, 2008)
America hardly said "It's Europe..fight among yourselves". In fact, we passed the Lend-Lease act which provided virtually all the war materiel Great Britain needed to stand up to the Nazis.

But, it was the stoic resolve with which the British resisted in the Battle of Britain that gave the United States time to overcome its inertia & inherent isolationism and mobilize to come to the aid of the continent. Had the English Isles fell, we'd have had no place from which to mount the Normandy invasion.

And let's not forget that tiny island of "cowards" dominated the globe for centuries, including the American continent, and brought rule of law to a billion other souls.

Literary journey (Night & Day, 3 Sep, 2008)
By god, you nailed it...I took my kid brother to see this film on the strength of your recommendation, and despite your being at odds with many of your fellow film critics (at least in the American press) on several issues, you nonetheless captured its essence. Namely, that the film is a forgettable lark that ought to satiate the sort of moviegoer hungry for a better blockbuster than Zohan and the like. Thanks. The 3-D stunts were pretty campy, but my brother is young enough to never have had the pleasure of dodging yo-yos and dino spit before (a life-changing experience for every young man).

Souls of the new machine (News, 3 Sep, 2008)
The Large Hadron Collider is truly the epitome of current physical experimentation. Its results will definitely alter the way we understand the laws of the Universe, but the LHC is also the reason for the rise of countless speculations ranging from the belief that the experiment will create a black hole that will engulf the earth all the way to the more optimistic outlook that will help us find the god particle. it is my opinion that the LHC will find proof that the formation of hadrons came at a much earlier stage of the formation of the Universe leading to a kind of Instantaneous theory about the Universe, in which there is no quark-plasma soup but rather the amazing discovery of protons in temperatures beyond the accepted values.

iPhone frenzy (Tech & Telecom, 27 Aug, 2008)
Ms. Compton fails to mention a very important problem with T-Mobile's offer.

They don't offer the 16gb model while both O2 and Vodafone do. The 8gb will be the first to be obsolete, probably within a couple of months. The first generation iPhone was offered in a 4 and 8 gb model, with the 4 gig version discontinued within the first several months.

T-Mobile fails to comprehend that the iPhone is basically an iPod with a telephone. The larger capacity means more music, video and other files can be carried. Frankly, I'm a T-Mobile customer and have been for years, but if I decide to buy an iPhone, and they continue with the mediocre support and selection, I'll be with a new company.

esp. ?The insects they study do not have commercial value. They include major forestry pests, and Dr Svacha's publications are of great use to forestry authorities all over the world,? Max Barclay, a curator at the Natural History Museum, London, said in an email sent to Indian scientists.

Werner Meisner's comment (above) is quite simply not true. He claims Svacha "has no published research" based on "a quick search in scientific journals" - how do you do a quick search of scientific journals, there are hundreds. Svacha is in fact the author of several major studies, and his series of monographs (Svacha & Danilevsky) on the larvae of cerambycidae (what he was collecting in India) is one of the most important works ever published on this extremely difficult and poorly known (and totally non commercial) field. Contrary to Meisner's statement he also has an academic position (senior researcher) and awards (including an editorship and a PhD). Meisner's comment is nothing but false libel! Why does he do that, to tell untruths to hurt people who are already suffering?!?!
- and if Kucera is a forester, what is so strange about him being interested in forest organisms!

A quick research in scientific journals shows that for an "expert" he has no published research that can bolster this claim. Most of the references (where his name appears) are to his collections. And Švácha's "co-researcher", Emil Kučera is a forester! This reinforces the suspicion that both are traders in rare insects and not really scientists. In fact if they are world famous scientists where is the reference? (their university positions, research, awards etc.)
