THREATS Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek has received a letter with death threats, the Czech News Agency (ČTK) reported Sept. 14. The author of the letter said that a bullet is waiting for Topolánek. According to the police, this is not the first such letter that Topolánek has received. The letter has been sent for routine tests of DNA and fingerprints.BLACKOUT Hundreds of Prague citizens were left without a TV signal over the weekend, daily Lidové noviny reported Sept 15. Due to repairs on Prague’s Žižkov transmitter, the signal has been broadcast from the Strahov transmitter, which has a different polarity. The repairs were consulted with all TVs beforehand, but information failed to reach the viewers, who had to readjust their antennas.EXTREMIST Local politician Tomáš Vandas spoke at an international meeting of neo-Nazis in Altenburg, a town 120km from the Czech-German border, daily news server iDnes.cz reported Sept 15. Vandas’ Workers Party had recently been linked to several neo-Nazi meetings in the Czech Republic. According to police reports, it is only a few steps from being abolished due to extremism.
