Roma march against racists

Protest follows skinhead attack

August 20th, 2008 issue

(Updated August 25, 2008) Some 100 Roma marched through the town of Rokycany on Sunday after 23 skinheads attacked four Roma men in the Ural restaurant on Friday night, Mladá fronta Dnes wrote on Monday.

"Stop the racists! We will not let them kill us!" the demonstrators shouted as police looked on without intervening.

"Why don't the police do something? This can't go on and I can't rule out bloodshed," said Andrej Lučka, the chairman of the Help Roma, citizens' initiative, which organized the protest.

In a separate note, MfD apologized for having to delete the usual online discussion regarding the article because the amount of "repeated racist and vulgar remarks" was too high to delete individually.

[02:23 26/08/2008] : Just to comment on the"racist remarks" that had to be deleted.....it just shows how narrow-minded and limited our views are and unless we have turned to ourselves to see the full extent and find willingness to change our obsolete social preconceptions racism wil remain ingrained in our society....i feel quite ashamed for the views we as a nation demonstrate in the 21st century marked with the step towards equality.....
