Foreign minister weds ex-wife

The secret ceremony took place in Austria

August 20th, 2008 issue

(Updated August 25, 2008) On July 25, in a secret ceremony in Murau, Austria, Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg (70) remarried his ex-wife, Therese (68), twenty years after their divorce, Hospodářské noviny wrote, citing the Austrian daily Kleine Zeitung.

"We are not divorced anymore, as of 25 July, we are remarried," Mrs. Schwarzenbergová told Kleine Zeitung.

"They never really split up," the Schwarzenbergs' son, Johannes, told Kleine Zeitung.

The couple were married in April 1968 in Seefeld, Austria, and divorced in Vienna in 1988, but "they basically stayed in love," the paper wrote.

Minister Schwarzenberg refused to comment on his personal affairs. The municipal authorities in Murau did not confirm that the ceremony took place.
