What climate change?

The Post could not be more mistaken when it asserts, “It is indisputable that the planet is warming up; many scientific studies have demonstrated this” (“More than ever a need for forward thinking,” Opinion, July 30–Aug. 5).

Even the most rabid global-warming alarmists have conceded that the outlook for the next several decades is for a cooling trend throughout the planet. Beyond that, no meteorological outlook is reliable. That cooling trend is the reason many alarmists have dropped “global warming” as their warning cry and substituted “climate change.”
By any phrase, it’s still nonsense. More than 31,000 American scientists — 10,000 of whom hold Ph.D. degrees in their scientific fields — have signed a declaration refuting the idea that greenhouse gases disrupt the Earth’s climate.

Roma racism
When the victims of institutional racism and a few good international journalists can develop the kind of trust necessary to get a powerful message out to the world, the results can be amazing (“Truth to power,” Opinion, July 30–Aug. 5). Hopefully the courage and patience of these Roma women, together with the powerful visuals and storytelling, will not only move millions of CNN viewers but will finally force Czech authorities to take responsibility for their woeful healthcare practices — and malpractice. If so, it will also be thanks to the long efforts of people like Gwen Albert in building such bridges.

Filling the void
Why is it that every article in The Prague Post refers negatively to U.S. actions taken while all other countries would appease those who would violate human rights (“A reminder for the need for a global outlook,” Opinion, July 23–29)? Would the world again repeat the effects of the ignominious Munich Agreement of 1938 when Czechoslovakia was effectively handed over to Hitler to, as UK Prime Minister MacMillan announced, “Save Europe from war”?
What did Europe do in Bosnia? And Kosovo? In Afghanistan, Germany provides troops, but for what? To standby and act like movie directors instead of doing the dirty work that the United States has had to do and is still doing? Why doesn’t The Prague Post (and Europe in general) answer questions such as these?
History will show that we made the right decision in Iraq, and George W. Bush will go down in that history as one of our greatest presidents. Remember Reagan? The world spoke about him similarly before he left office. Does it remember that it was he who effectively bankrupted (through our unprecedented military spending) the Russians and forced Gorbachev into glasnost and perestroika?

[16:28 08/08/2008] : I must disagree with Mr. Skala from Eaton's Neck, New York in that I think w will go down in history as America's worst and most evil president ever. He and his band of thieves have ruined our country and turned the world against us. I appoligize to the World for what he has done in the name of the USA. Reagan may have bankrupted the USSR but w has bankrupted America.
