The American Chamber of Commerce has elected Aleš Bartůněk, the general manager of IBM Czech Republic, as its ninth president. He succeeds Magdalena Souček of Ernst & Young, who was the chamber’s second-longest serving president.
For the past two years, Bartůněk served as the chairman of the chamber’s economic development council. He plans to focus on building the chamber’s presence in the country’s regions, planning to make the Prague-Brno-Ostrava hub one of the most dynamic economic hubs in Europe.Joining Bartůněk on the executive committee are Ron Adams, CEO of Tatra; Jan Brázda, director of Spencer Stuart Management Consulting; Jan Spurný, country head of global clients for ABN AMRO; and Jiří Pavlíček, managing director of Johnson & Johnson Czech Republic.Zuzana Vaněčková and Zenon Folwarczny have been commissioned to lead the new Pricewaterhouse-Coopers tax office in Ostrava, north Moravia. Vaněčková will serve as managing partner, while Folwarczny will be responsible for the office’s day-to-day management and operation.
Vaněčková specializes in direct and indirect taxes and has advised major domestic and foreign companies. She is the leader of a team focusing on mergers and restructuring, and a group of specialists in the field of tax administration, particularly representation and assistance during tax audits, appeals and legal proceedings.Vaněčková graduated from the University of Economics in Prague and is a member of the Czech Chamber of Tax Advisers. She speaks Czech, English, Russian and Spanish.Folwarczny is a tax specialist, advising both domestic and foreign companies. He also provides advice on changes in business models and international tax planning.Folwarczny graduated from the Warsaw School of Economics, studying banking and finance and quantitative methods. In 2005, he completed a postgraduate international tax law program at the Vienna University of Economics. He is a member of Chamber of Tax Advisers of the Czech Republic. He is fluent in Czech, English and Polish.Pavel Hain-Schmiedberský has been named the leasing and marketing manager of the Lighthouse Group. He originally joined Lighthouse as a specialist in renting office space for the Prague Marina Office Center and Harfa Office Center projects.
After studying economics and management, Hain-Schmiedberský worked for ECM and Flow East, introducing in the Czech Republic the Fitzwilliam Business Centre brand, offering fully equipped and serviced offices.Send information about personnel changes at your company to mhulpachova@praguepost.com
