Free movies in Prague, Pardubice

Outdoor theaters offer wide range of shows

June 18th, 2008 issue

(Updated June 25, 2008) What could be better than a summer evening watching a free movie under the stars?

Get your fix at three free outdoor movie venues – two in Prague and one in Pardubice, Hospodářské noviny reported on Wednesday. Or pay a nominal fee for the almost nightly movies and concerts at Střelecký ostrov, the island beneath Legii most, which recently re-opened its Kino Střelák outdoor cinema for the summer season. (for a complete schedule, check out: www.strelak.cz)

In Prague, free movies at Rohanský island in the Karlín neighborhood are being financed by the development company building an office complex nearby. Not far away, movie lovers can take in free shows from the ‘60s at the Ludvík Svoboda embankment on the "U Bukanýra"  houseboat.

In Pardubice, movie organizer Attack Media Co. is in its third year. Up to 1,000 people showed up per event last year, says Jan Motyčka, a spokesman. Financing comes from the town, other sponsors and refreshment sales, he says.
