Rated R

All I can say about the “Sexism?” exhibit at Galery Václava Špály on Národní street is — God help the Czech Republic and its people (“Rated R,” Night & Day, May 21–27).
What a new low this has reached. Can you not see the depravity of this? Are we not close to mimicking the Roman Empire in its final days?
When my children are in Prague, I will make sure they do not walk down this street. How is one supposed to raise moral children in this Satanic culture? Is it any wonder that Islamic fanatics hate the West?

Bus rights redux
About the man on the bus — first, why would an “Islamic terrorist” write in English on a laptop in a public space like this? (“Detention raises question of rights,” News, May 21–27).
Was a background check necessary after the situation was explained? After the bus got under way, which would mean that there was no problem, how come no one on the bus talked to him?
I recently read that a huge number of Czechs would have a problem with having Arabs (or perhaps Muslims) as neighbors. (Never mind that a sizable minority of Arabs are Christians).
Though most people are against it, I know (seemingly) perfectly intelligent, independent minded people in Prague who want the radar base, because they say Palestinians might attack the country with a missile.
The main problem is that so many people here — and not just here — are ignorant and/or xenophobic, as always.

When it comes to the discussion of the man who was detained briefly by police after traveling on a bus, I have to say this is inefficiency as usual, plus perfect hysteria.
This comes from xenophobia plus ignorance … whether from the public or the police.
Shame on both groups.

Trojan horse
About the proposed radar base: Before the election, this “elected government” never said a word to the public about its intention to make such an agreement with the United States (“A desperate but appropriate protest tactic,” Opinion, May 14–20).
It may be an elected government, but it is certainly not democratic.
This is just the latest example of a small group of authoritarians collaborating with an aggressive foreign power under the pretense of protection.
The radar base is a Trojan horse in the heart of the European Union.

[10:42 08/06/2008] : Mr Hurta,

I live in Prague, and I'm really happy that an exhibit like Sexism? can be openly shown in main street such as NarodnĂ.
Fortunately, I live in a society in which it is more acceptable to consume erotica (or even pornography) than to buy guns.
Please, stay in your backwater society if you are so afraid of the "satanic" influences of a really free one.
