Bookstore, pro-con

That bookstore was a rip-off, with prices almost double those in non-tourist book stores elsewhere in Prague (“Eager to consume, Prague is selling its soul,” Opinion, May 7–13).
The clientele were not people looking for intelligent reading, but people looking to escape the rain and wait for their tour groups to meet under the Madonna.
Good riddance.

About the Black Madonna Bookstore, I am surprised that there is no mention of street advertising, the banners over Sokolská, the ones over every lamp post promoting venues and let’s not forget the never-ending ads for Darling Cabaret, et al.
This town is for sale to the highest bidder.

How sad that the Black Madonna Bookstore has closed. Another unique aspect of Prague vanished forever. Prague is quickly becoming just another city devoid of character.

I remember making a trip to Manchester, England, a few years ago. All promotional information about the little town talked about it as being one of only a handful of places in the United Kingdom where medieval architecture still existed.
Well, it was a beautiful town. But, unfortunately, you couldn’t really appreciate it due to all the signs, billboards and shops lining every square meter on the main streets. They literally blocked my view of all the buildings.
Is that what we’re headed for here in my little home away from home called Praha? Just take a look at the gaudy architectural debacle called Palladium.
The architects must have been high when designing it. Crenulated walls from drywall? Pink walls? A neon tower clock? Inappropriate. The flood lighting doesn’t make it any better.
It’s like Disney World taking on the Old World, but in a very perverted way. I love Mickey just like anyone else, but what they did to náměstí Republiky and the monastery was just wrong. It makes Kotva and that “square” communist style look appealing in comparison.
It makes you wonder what kind of backhander someone got at city hall to approve that project.

Car crimes?
I was interested in your article about car imports (“Drowning in jalopies,” Business, May 7–13). As a confirmed libertarian and foe of all bollock-brained Brussels bureaucrats, I am glad to see the innate peasant common sense of the Czech people working around all of those uniformed minions of serfdom economy.
If it means bribery, better a criminal than the goons of state fascism.

Given below is the scientific proof that God exists.

Albert Einstein stated "1 gram of any substance consists of a 931 mega electron volt of energy".
Another science law states that energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be converted from one form to another.
Any substance you burn on this Planet Earth radiates energy.
After death, the first thing to leave a person is his breath. After death, Christians and Muslims bury the dead body, Hindus burn it.
So, the dead body either decays or reduces to ashes slowly. In the process, it radiates energy and mingles with the atmosphere.
From there, where it goes is a mystery.
In my opinion, it goes to God's secret abode, where each person's soul has to individually answer questions regarding actions (both good and controversial) he has performed in his life.
Sorry, you can't play the blame game there. So, friends, beware of your present and everyday actions every second and apply discretion in whatever you do.
A WORD OF ADVICE
Close your eyes and think for a minute how your daily life would be if your vision was not there for one week.
Thank God for giving you eyesight and avoid misusing it, that is don't watch vulgar stuff or read vulgar literature. Also, think of those people who don't have eyesight since birth.
Everybody (including you and me) is responsible to God after death for his present actions. Everybody has to die sooner or later. So, please be careful of your everyday and present actions and apply discretion in whatever you do.
BIGGEST SHAME FOR WE PEOPLE
Its quite evident from the Holy Bible that Jesus had great spiritual powers. Yet, he died on the Holy Cross just to relieve us of our sins. The harsh truth is that we are still shamelessly sinning in many ways.
