(Updated April 25, 2008) Documentary filmmaker Olga Špátová is shooting footage of architect Jan Kaplický and his National Library design, dubbed “the blob” by media pundits, Mladá fronta Dnes reported on Friday.
Špátová’s original idea was to make a documentary showing construction of the new building. Kaplický, 71, won an international design competition last year for the project, which was planned to be built in Letná Park, an area overlooking the center of Prague.
Nothing has been built yet, however, due to political obstacles.
Instead, Špátová plans to get public opinions about the new design as well as statements from politicians who are against it. Mayor Pavel Bém has spoken out against the project. Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek appears to be in favor of it.
Kaplický's wife Eliška is the movie’s producer.
