April 16th, 2008 issue

(Updated April 16, 2008) A growing number of people have Internet connections at home, according to a survey reported in E15 economic magazine on Thursday.

Almost 60 percent of Czech households now have an Internet connection, compared to 46 percent a year ago, according to Dema company, which focuses on promoting Internet use, among other things.

About 40 percent of residents use the Internet every day, and the number seems to be growing, according to Jiří Remr, director of Markent marketing agency.

More people are using the Internet because connections and availability are getting better in the Czech Republic. In addition, more people are buying laptops as prices go down.

An increasing number of young people who buy apartments say that having an Internet connection at home is a necessity, Remr said.

More than 60 percent of Czech households have a computer, according to the survey.
