Jágr tallied one goal and one assist in the New York Rangers’ 4-3 loss in overtime to the Philadelphia Flyers March 21. The two points lifted Jágr to ninth place on the NHL’s all-time points list, which he shares with the legendary Phil Esposito. Jágr has amassed 1,590 points in 1,266 games, divided between 640 goals and 950 assists. He is also the NHL’s 12th-highest goal scorer.RECORD In another record reached by a Czech player in the NHL, veteran goalie Dominik Hašek celebrated his 385th win in the Detroit Red Wings’ 6-3 win over the Nashville Predators March 20. The 43-year-old Hašek ranks 10th all-time in the number of wins by an NHL goalie.TROPHY Last but not least, NHL defenseman Jaroslav Modrý is among the nominees for this season’s Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, given to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. The winner is selected by a media poll after each team nominates one player. The 37-year-old, who this season transferred from the Los Angeles Kings to the Philadelphia Flyers, is the first Czech to be nominated for the award.VERNER Figure skater Tomáš Verner finished in a disappointing 15th place at the World Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden. Verner, who won the European Championship in February, ranked fourth after the short program but his repeated failures in the free program March 22 demoted him to the lowly spot.RESIGNED Mladá Boleslav soccer coach Zdeněk Ščasný has resigned after he was ejected from a Gambrinus liga game for the fourth time this season. Ščasný received his fourth red card in Mladá Boleslav’s 4-1 loss to Sparta Praha March 17 after he repeatedly criticized the referee’s calls from the sideline. He is the fifth coach in the league to leave his position this season.SCOTS The national soccer team will play its last tune-up before Euro 2008 against Scotland and not Belgium, as originally planned, the team announced March 24. The game will take place in Prague May 30. The switch came because most of the Belgian players will be away at a camp preparing for the Summer Olympics. The Czech team opens Euro 2008 with a game against Switzerland June 7.MOTO The Masaryk Circuit in Brno, south Moravia, has been named the best race track of the Moto GP’s 2007 season, Yahoo! Sports reported March 14. The IRTA, Moto GP’s governing body, said the 13.4-kilometer circuit topped its annual “Best Grand Prix” poll.
