The requirements of Valentine’s Day are simple, really: roses, chocolate and a nice, romantic and memorably expensive dinner. If a man successfully accomplishes these tasks Feb. 14, he lives to see another few months of relationship bliss — depending, of course, on how he handles other important dates along the way, such as birthdays, Mother’s Day (if applicable) and that all-important Jan Hus Day trip to the cottage. To aid the cause, a number of fine-dining destinations are offering special Valentine’s Day packages this year. Top hotels may even include dinner with an overnight stay. Aria, for example, is offering a package that includes a romantic meal in Coda restaurant, a room for two nights, a couples’ massage, roses and a bottle of Moet & Chandon. Such a deal will smooth over almost any transgression, past or future. So here’s a sample of Prague’s more romantic spots. Prices, where listed, are per person.Alcron (Radisson SAS, Štěpánská 40, Prague 1–New Town. Tel. 222 820 038). Cozy and intimate, with seating for about 40. International dishes, although seafood is the star.Allegro (Four Seasons, Veleslavínova 2a, Prague 1–Old Town. Tel. 221 427 000). Special four-course menu for 2,500 Kč ($142). Five courses, 2,900 Kč. Window seats are the most romantic. Modern Italian cooking.Angel (V Kolkovně 7, Prague 1–Old Town. Tel 773 222 422). Prague’s newest upscale room is elegant yet understated, with a kitchen to please. The menu fuses Asian flavors in impressive style.Bellevue (Smetanovo nábř. 18, Prague 1–Old Town. Tel. 222 221 443). Luxury, with a view of the castle — and a good wine list. Bold, international creations. Take the window seats, if available.Brasserie M (Vladislavova 17, Prague 1–New Town. Tel. 224 054 070). Special three-course menu includes a glass of Champagne (2,250 Kč). Not very intimate, but good French cooking.CzecHouse (Hilton Prague, Pobřežní 1, Prague 8–Karlín. Tel. 224 842 700). Five-course meal prepared for Valentine’s Day, with a glass of sekt, live music and a surprise gift for the better half — all for 2,950 Kč.Flambee (Husova 5, Prague 1–Old Town. Tel. 224 248 512). The classic “special event” destination, featuring a stellar wine list, formal service and highly rated continental cuisine, all in a Romanesque setting.Hradčany (Savoy Hotel, Keplerova 6, Prague 1–Hradčany. Tel. 224 302 150). Respected restaurant serves standout international fare based on seasonal ingredients. Quiet space near the castle.La Degustation (Haštalská 18, Prague 1–Old Town. Tel. 222 311 234). The city’s most extravagant restaurant. Linger over a full evening of dining: seven tasting courses with wine and rich chocolates to finish.La Provence (Štupartská 9, Prague 1–Old Town. Tel. 296 826 155). French dishes and French wines served in either the casual upstairs bistro or the comfortable, but more elegant space below.La Veranda (Elišky Krásnohorské 2, Prague 1–Old Town. Tel. 224 814 733). Intimate feel, despite narrow confines. Continental cuisine ranges from seafood to a really great steak. Good service, too.Monsoon (V. P. Čkalova 14, Prague 6–Dejvice. Tel. 222 959 999). Three-course special menu for a surprisingly fair price — 595 Kč — from one of the city’s best Asian-fusion kitchens.Oliva (Plavecká 4, Prague 2–New Town. Tel. 222 520 288). Nuanced Mediterranean food in a setting at once neighborly and cozy. Only two rooms, but everything, including décor, is well-considered.Pálffy Palác (Valdštejnská 14, Prague 1–Malá Strana. Tel. 257 530 522). Established destination features an eclectic compilation of international flavors and several decadent, Baroque rooms.Passepartout (Americká 20, Prague 2–Vinohrady. Tel. 222 513 340). A moderately priced option for those who consider France and romance one and the same. Small, casual, bistro-style space.Samurai (Londýnská 73, Prague 2–Vinohrady. Tel. 222 515 330). Beautiful space serving sushi and other Japanese dishes. For best results, reserve one of their secluded tatami rooms.Sushi Bar (Zborovská 49, Prague 5–Smíchov. Tel. 603 244 882). Long-established sushi place still rates at or near the top. More importantly, the restaurant’s small dining area provides an intimate feel.V Zátiší (Liliová 1, Prague 1–Old Town. Tel. 222 221 155). Quirky rooms with enough space between tables for quiet, private conversations. Very good international cooking and a strong wine list.
