How many incompletions will Eli throw? The Super Bowl offers fun on many levels.

So what if some fodder from Exit 16W managed to sneak past America’s team, outlast Favre and company on the frozen tundra, and find their way into the big game?
It’s still the Super Bowl — the annual display of glitz, advertising muscle and, occasionally, football. The 42nd edition of Super Sunday airs very early Monday morning in Prague, Feb. 3–4, with kickoff between the New York Giants and unbeaten New England Patriots slated for 12:30 a.m., or thereabouts.
While it may be possible to convince bartenders at any all-night club to switch from kaleidescopic backgrounds to the game, several bars plan to dedicate the night to football, complete with sound.
Here are a few of the options. Seating may be scarce, so get there early or call ahead.
Fat Boys (Štupartská 5, Prague 1–Old Town. Tel. 721 737 588). Will stay open until the final whistle. A single large screen in one room, so grab a table early. Inexpensive for that part of town, and home to a congenial host.
Jáma (V Jámě 7, Prague 1–New Town. Tel. 224 222 383). One big screen and one small, both in a cozy space. Game sound at full blast. Reservations necessary, as the bar has a regular NFL crowd. Good service and camaraderie.
Legends (Týn 1, Prague 1–Old Town. Tel. 224 895 404). The veteran establishment looks to host its umpteenth big game. Many screens, just call to confirm and reserve a spot. Fat Boys is nearby if the place fills up.
Lions (Krakovská 19, Prague 1–New Town. Tel. 720 216 204). Planning an evening of football, complete with nachos and a discount on some beers. Several flat screens around the upper floor with a large setup downstairs. Good viewing areas.
Sherlock’s Pub (Bartolomějská 11, Prague 1–Old Town. Tel. 226 211 939). Normally open until 4 a.m., with food service until 3 a.m. One large screen, but a nice room. Just make certain they will remain open if the game runs long.
The Pack (Ve Smečkách 21, Prague 1–New Town. Tel. 222 210 280). New ownership and a new menu, but same old Pack otherwise. Meaning? Three rooms, each with flat screens, including the large setup downstairs.
Zest Bar (Hilton Prague, Pobřežní 1, Prague 8–Karlín. Tel. 224 842 700). Happy-hour prices during the early pre-game blather between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Snacks and light fare available throughout the evening. Big screens.
Zlatá Hvězda (Ve Smečkách 12, Prague 1–New Town. Tel. 296 222 292). Screens everywhere, large and small, in this rustic place beloved for cheap beer. Be warned: If the crowd thins (about the time Eli throws his third INT), the staff has a tendency to shut down and head home.
Playmakers
Somewhere in the distant past, a hunger-crazed Cro-Magnon snared a few lobsters and decided, “What the hell, let’s dig into these things.” Turns out the spindly critters were great — and are highly prized nowadays. In response, CzecHouse is offering a seafood feast every day Feb. 15 through 24, featuring just about any saltwater creature wearing armor: lobster, crab, mussels, clams, oysters. Call 224 842 700 for more details.
Meanwhile, the folks at Brasserie M are preparing to bask in the wonders of cheese (and other stuff) melted in pots. In other words, a Fondue Festival, in which four different menu options (each for two people, minimum) will allow you to dip everything from fruit to chicken, shrimp and beef. Prices are reasonable: 495 Kč ($28) for the dessert version, 1,250 Kč for three cheeses and kirsch. Call 224 054 070.
Monsoon has two special evenings lined up. The first, Jan. 31, is a multicourse Tokyo Fusion dinner for 595 Kč. Or you can celebrate Chinese New Year at the Dejvice destination Feb. 7 with wonton soup, fiery roast pork loin, banana-mango spring rolls and other dishes, all for 545 Kč. Find out more at 222 959 999.
Oliva started the new year with a few additions to its always-stellar menu. And Fluidum, the steady, sometimes underappreciated spot in Prague 3, has put together a special organic offer.
Comeback kids
Arnie Foley keeps on fiddlin’ with his Irish creation, Shamrock. He opened the spot partially finished last fall, but continued to plan décor upgrades. Now he’s promising that the terrace bar area overlooking the vast main dining room will be open for drinks on or around Feb. 1.
Bellevue will reopen Feb. 4 after a bit of downtime — not for cosmetic changes, but to install spanking new kitchen equipment.
Final (slurred) words
Didn’t catch the guy’s name, but the presenter at a recent wine and cheese event at Monarch on Na Perštýně decided to warm up an audience of fermented grape aficionados with a little joke — one which ended with an enchanted frog granting a blonde woman’s wish to become smarter by turning her into a man. It fell as flat as the open bottle of Bohemia Sekt that’s been sitting in the fridge since New Year’s. No one paid attention to his spiel after that.
