Riverside promenade closes up shop

No foot traffic in unique location

November 21st, 2007 issue

(Updated Nov. 22, 2008) Prague's Paris-style promenade on the embankment of the Vltava river appears to be abandoned, Mladá fronta Dnes newspaper reports.

Parking Praha company opened shopping stalls on the Rašínovo embankment on the right bank of the Vltava river to great fanfare in July.
Those stalls are closed now, a company spokesman told Mladá fronta Dnes.
"There is a lack of interest on the side of the buyers as well as the sellers," says Pavel Uher, head of Parking Praha.
Shopkeepers weren't making any money, says Petr Benáčan from Taiko Co.
