Klaus nominated for second presidential term

President is Civic Democratic Party candidate

November 21st, 2007 issue

(Updated Nov. 28, 2007) Czech President Václav Klaus is the Civic Democratic Party's official candidate for the 2008 presidential election, according to iHNed.cz server.

Potential opposition candidate, University of Michigan professor Jan Švejnar, has not officially accepted the candidacy.
With 81 potential supporters in the parliament and 41 in the Senate, as well as a few renegades from other parties, Klaus is seen as the favorite in the election. However, representatives of the ČSSD, and the Green Party, as well as many from the center KDU-CSL are openly opposed to Klaus.
As in the last election, the Communist vote is viewed as decisive.
