November 21st, 2007 issue

(Updated Nov. 28, 2007) The number of people with HIV and AIDS could be 10 times higher than official statistics show, Miroslav Laverty, the director of the House of Light (Dům světla) advocacy group said on Tuesday, according to iHNED.cz news server.

Laverty made his comments to American Ambassador Richard Graber, who toured the group's facilities in advance of World AIDS Day on Friday.
Official statistics show there are 1,020 HIV-positive people in the Czech Republic, 230 people suffering from AIDS, and 130 who have died of AIDS this year. In the first 10 months of 2007, 100 new cases of HIV were documented.
