Inflation may push up prices by 5 percent

Average salaries also expected to rise in January

November 7th, 2007 issue

(Updated Nov. 15, 2007) Power, food, transportation and medical care are all expected to get more expensive in January because of inflation, Mladá fronta Dnes reported on Thursday.

Economists expect prices to rise by about 5 percent, the largest inflationary increase in the last seven years. Interest rates are also expected to go up.

Salaries should be able to keep pace with inflation, increasing by 2,000 Kč (about $100) on average per month to 23,372 Kč ($1,287), according to David Mark at Patria Finance.
