Czechs are on the move

Jobs, studies draw people to Prague

November 7th, 2007 issue

(Updated Nov. 15, 2007) More than 19,400 people moved to Central Bohemia during the first six months of the year, more than 14,300 of them from Prague, according to national statistics reported by ČTK on Thursday.

Most of those who moved out of the city most recently said they preferred to live in the countryside close to Prague where they could commute to the city easily or find other jobs.

At the same time, about 23,000 people moved to Prague, 12,000 foreigners and 11,000 Czechs, according to the statistics office. Those moving to the capital said they did so mainly for new jobs or to pursue their studies.

People also move to the Plzeň and South Moravia districts more commonly than they move to other places in the country. North Moravia is the most unpopular district for moves, the statistics office said.
