New manager at PwC

July 11th, 2007 issue

The Prague office of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) announced two new appointments in July.

The company’s new managing partner in Prague is Stephen B. Booth, who took over from 10-year veteran Mike Hackworth as territory senior partner. Booth has led the firm’s Czech tax practice since 2003. He will continue to serve as tax leader of the regional automotive practice.

Booth has been with PwC in the United States since 1981. His professional experience covers corporate and international taxation, including tax structuring, repatriation of earnings, tax optimization structures and structuring of merger and acquisition transactions.
Booth graduated from Boston University and the University of Hartford (Master of Science in taxation). He is married and has three daughters.
Following the change in leadership, Mike Hackworth will devote himself full-time to the senior role of managing partner of operations and markets on the regional leadership team for Central and Eastern Europe. He will continue to be based in Prague.
In other personnel news at PwC, Sirshar Qureshi was appointed partner in the forensic services department. He will be responsible for further expanding the business and assisting clients in the Czech Republic and other locations in Central Europe.
Qureshi will draw on 15 years of experience working in the accountancy arena across numerous sectors, including banking, telecoms and utilities. He has specialized in forensic services for the last 11 years, focusing on dispute and fraud-related matters. He joined the forensic services team in London, focusing initially on dispute and tax investigation cases. He also spent two years at the Department of Trade and Industry in the United Kingdom, working within the company’s investigation branch, carrying out investigations on behalf of the UK government. In 2001, he moved to Prague to develop the Central and Eastern European practice. Qureshi graduated from the University of Nottingham. He is a member of the Association of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ACA).
At the same time, Viera Kučerová was named a partner in the tax and legal services department. She will also be responsible for coordinating private equity merger and acquisition tax transactions within Central and Eastern Europe.
Kučerová
Kučerová leads a team of Prague-based M&A tax professionals who support regional offices when advising financial and strategic buyers on deals in their respective territories. She is responsible for managing the tax element of private equity deals in the region, especially in relation to the due diligence and tax structuring part of client support.
Kučerová joined PwC in 1994 and has worked with the company in Prague since September 2005. Before that, she spent four years as senior tax manager on secondment to the PwC London office.
Kučerová graduated from the Bratislava University of Economics. She is a Slovak registered tax advisr and a fellow of the UK Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
