Iran reckoningThis paragraph is really stupid (“Iran: One step forward, two steps back,” Opinion, May 30–June 5):“Whether the British crew had in fact violated international borders was never definitively determined. And one could make the argument that Western forces constantly patrolling the edges of Iran are looking for trouble ...”No such argument could be made, because the Western forces are patrolling that region of the Persian Gulf under authority of the UN Security Council to help prevent oil smuggling and to help secure Iraq’s progress. And one could only believe that it was “never definitively determined” whether the British Naval forces encroached on Iranian waters if one accepted the position of the Iranian government lock, stock and barrel. The initial GPS coordinates provided by Iran placed the Brits outside of Iranian waters; then the government issued “new” coordinates that allegedly placed them inside Iranian waters. Surprise, surprise — the first set of coordinates agreed with what the Brits asserted from the outset. The rest of this article is so much moral equivalence. Iran has been waging war on us for 28 years. It funded and trained the first “successful” suicide bombers, who killed hundreds of U.S. Marines in Lebanon in 1983. It continues to supply weapons and training to both Shiite and Sunni terrorist groups in Iraq, and specifically supplies weapons that are used to kill U.S. forces. The Iranian regime has absolutely no interest in a peaceful, stable Iraq. Its interest is to keep the chaos and death on a rolling boil. And its nuclear program is a bargaining chip to assure the survival of the regime. The Prague Post has been a disappointingly naive bunch of “useful idiots” on the subject of Iran. Hopefully, your eyes are being opened, at least a little bit. Brant Hadaway MiamiWhose care?I am a graduate of the Medical School of Charles University (class of 1982) and have now practiced for 20-plus years in the United States (“Czech doctors to start lessons in bedside manner,” News, May 23–29). I have to tell you that in general (of course, they are exceptions) the behavior of Czech doctors is very unprofessional. They completely lack any empathy, courtesy and manners. What is even worse, they have no idea how wrong and inappropriate they are! They are constantly talking about how bad they have it, how little money they make.In reality, patients do not (and should not) care about doctors’ feelings. Part of the training should be to teach young doctors how to prevent their personal feelings from interfering with their job. They have a long way to go ...Milan Hrkal PhoenixI delivered my first baby last summer by cesarean section, at ÚPMD Podolí in Prague. I can say that I was really happy how everybody from there treated us for one week, when we were hospitalized. Irina Klomp Bucharest
