Movers and ShakersHindls to head VŠEMovers & Shakers | Search restaurants | Archives By František Bouc Staff Writer, The Prague Post November 23rd, 2005 issue Professor Richard Hindls has been elected the new chancellor of the country's top economics school, the University of Economics in Prague (VŠE). Hindls has been teaching statistics at VŠE for 34 years. Most recently, he was the dean of the IT and Statistics faculties. Dimension Data, a global IT services and solutions provider that opened its Czech office in Prague Nov.9, announced Derek Cummins as country manager. Cummins has more than 13 years experience working in the IT and telecommunications industries. Prior to his new appointment, Cummins held several senior positions at GTS Europe and Nortel Networks. He has also worked at Český Telecom and Telenor Network/Nextra. An Irish national, Cummins has been living and working in the Czech Republic since 2000. Three attorneys, Tomáš Krofta, David Pelikán and Augustin Kohoutek, recently established a new law firm in Prague: Pelikán Krofta Kohoutek. Pelikán and Kohoutek previously worked in the Prague office of international law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges. Pelikán specializes in mergers and acquisitions, banking transactions and bonds. Kohoutek's expertise includes information technology and telecommunications law. Krofta previously worked as a partner in law firm Janák Zeithaml & Co., where he focused on corporate law. Wei-Hai Chu has been appointed chief commercial officer at Karneval Media, a cable network operator. He will oversee the company's sales and marketing strategies and its expansion into the high-speed Internet services market. Chu is a Dutch citizen with a degree in economics from Seton Hall University in the United States. He has been working in the IT and telecommunications sector for the past 15 years, most recently as the director for mobile services at British Telecom. Česká spořitelna Financial Group has reported personnel changes at the top of some of its companies. The group's insurance company, Pojišťovna České spořitelny, is now in the hands of Petr Zapletal. Zapletal was named chairman of the board of directors, replacing Jaroslav Kulhánek. Until recently, Zapletal was chief of the board of directors at the group's asset management company, Investiční společnost ČS. Radek Urban will take over that position. The finance director of e-banka, Martin Kolouch, was recently promoted to the bank's five-member board of directors. Kolouch is a graduate of Charles University's Philosophical Faculty. He kicked off his professional career as a business reporter. Kolouch later worked as a senior consultant at Deloitte. He also held the positions of strategy director and budgeting director at Komerční banka. Kolouch has been part of e-Banka's financial management since 2002.
