Changes at the top of PKN

Poland's oil concern PKN Orlen, which recently completed the privatization of Czech petrochemical group Unipetrol (see story, page A11), made several changes to its board of directors this summer. Igor Chalupec was confirmed as CEO and general director. Meanwhile, Wojciech Heydel, Jan Maciejewicz and Cezany Smorszczewski were appointed PKN Orlen's vice CEOs for the next three years.

Peter Valach has relocated from Bratislava, Slovakia, to Prague to take over the position of pre-sales technical specialist at wireless networking leader D-Link. In his new job, Valach will be responsible for consulting with clients and preparing product presentations. Before moving to Prague, Valach held the same position in Slovak firm Ty-net Slovakia.

Petr Eisler, CEO of Czech software firm MERLIN, has decided to spread control of the firm's activities among more management team members. Martin Pondelícek was appointed the managing director for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and Petr Vysín was named the director of the Implementation Division.

Meanwhile, Eisler will continue to take responsibility for the company's economic results and development of foreign activities.

Pondelícek studied management at the University of Economics in Prague. Before joining Merlin, he worked for Merkuria, a foreign trade company and later for C.T.I. as sales manager. He moved to Merlin in 1996 and held the positions of sales manager and project manager. He became a member of the top management team in 2000.

Vysín, who studied at the Czech Technical University in Prague, began his professional career as a programmer and project manager at Czech software firm Esprit. He later worked for Powersoft Czech Republic and Oracle Czech in the sales and customer care departments. Vysín joined Merlin as a quality manager in 2002.

Jana Zilvarová, the former senior attorney at German law firm Gleiss Lutz, has founded a new law firm in Prague: Zilvarová Ctibor Hladky´. Zilvarová formed the new firm with her colleagues at Gless Lutz, Jirí Ctibor and Radek Hladky´. She said the Prague-based firm would concentrate on real estate law, mergers, acquisitions, leasing transactions, forfeiting, factoring and EU law.

Zilvarová studied law at the Law Faculty of the Palacky´ University in Olomouc and at Charles University in Prague. In the early days of her career, she honed her professional skills at the prestigious London-based law firm Herbert Smith.

Zilvarová devotes much of her leisure time to sports, including skiing, snowboarding, cycling and in-line skating.
