CLASSICAL

There's a few events left in the Prague Music Festival, which ends Aug. 13 with Janácek Philharmonic Ostrava playing J.S. Bach and Czech composers. Closing: Aug. 13 at 8, Rudolfinum

Kristiaan Seynhave, who is the organist at the National Basilica in Koekelberg and a winner of several international competitions, plays at the International Organ Festival. Aug. 11 at 7, Bazilika sv. Jakuba

Polish organist Slawomir Kaminski joins the Organ Summer festival with classical favorites and a piece by Feliks Nowowiejski. Kaminski is an expert in Polish organ composers. Aug. 12 and 13 at 6, Smetana Hall, Obecní du?m

Another ongoing festival drawing to a close is the French Horn 2005 festival. There are concerts Aug. 12 at the Klementium and Aug. 14 at Chrám sv. Mikulase. The closing concert has a flute quartet with special guests playing works by F.X. Mozart and Stich-Punto. Closing: Aug. 16 at 6, Ledeburská zahrada; in case of bad weather, Lichtenstejnsky´ palác

OPERA

Two operas are staged mainly for a tourist audience. Verdi's La Traviata is at Divadlo Na Vinohradech and Mozart's Don Giovanni is at the Estates Theater, where it had its world premiere. Both are daily at 8. Note that these productions by MozART Praha are not the same ones that play during the standard season.

THEATER

One of the better ongoing events, Mozart's epic opera Don Giovanni is brought to life with puppets, set to recorded music in the original Italian. Aug. 11–16 at 8, Národní divadlo marionet

A musical version of Hamlet is presented in English. The play is adapted from Jan Ledecky´'s Czech version. Ledecky´, who usually plays the lead, moves over to the role of King Claudius. Hamlet will be played by Sebastian Arcelus, who had roles in Rent and Good Vibrations. Aug. 16–18, 24–27 and 30 at 8:30, Divadlo Kalich

JAZZ, ROCK, ETC.

Prague-based Fatty Lumpkin incorporates funk and jazz into their sound. The international band has built up quite a cult following. Aug. 11 at 9; Balbínova poetická hospu?dka

Czech folk singer Karel Plíhal is probably familiar to audiences for his appearance as himself in Year of the Devil. He began performing in the 1980s and put out a double CD recorded in Olomouc to mark his 25th anniversary in the spring. Aug. 11 at 7, Strelecky´ ostrov

Scottish hard rockers Nazareth are touring with a new drummer. Their hits from the 1970s include "Love Hurts" and "Broken Down Angel." Zimní stadion, Stvanice

Multi-instrumentalist Milan Svoboda always delivers a lively show of high-energy jazz fusion with his quartet. Aug. 13 at 9, AghaRTA

OUT OF TOWN

Most of the big rock events are out of town. Nick Cave, Skinny Puppy and the Sisters of Mercy headline the main stage of Love Planet, which should be one of the summer's biggest festivals. Other areas have Stereo MCs, Kosheen and Djs. See Stage, page B2. Aug. 12–13 from 3, Aeroklub Tábor

Mostly local bands like Plastic People of the Universe, Pavel Fajt and Uz jsme doma play Eurotrialog Mikulov. Aug. 12 at 7, Aug. 13 at 2, Amphitheatre, Mikulov
